I don’t imagine you’ll actually read any of this, as I’m sure your opinion of me is already so stubbornly formed that nothing I could say would possibly bring you around to engaging in any kind of meaningful discourse with me. But I can hope.

This is exactly the kind of response I was trying to speak out against at the end of my last comment. I don’t care if you disagree with me, David. I respect your right to an opinion, just as I wish you would respect mine. But here is my problem: if people like you are going to tell me that my opinion is “drivel,” and that you “won’t waste [your] time” with it, then where, I ask, is the intelligent discourse, and why, I ask, should anyone bother to have an opinion at all?

NO government act is going to succeed without cooperation. For any major act of legislation to truly work, liberals and conservatives will indeed have to cooperate. Now, I am a political moderate with admittedly liberal leanings. That’s my choice, based on my experiences, and how I view the world. And yes, I voted for Obama. I do not approve of many things his administration has done, or is attempting to do. AND THIS is why discourse across party lines and across idealogies is SO crucial. Just because I am semi liberal, does not mean that I “love” Obama. However, when people make claims that do not resonate with my views, of course I am going to question them. Just as you question (or pity? I couldn’t quite glean an emotion other than disgust from your response) my views. And I appreciate that, but I’d like you to take it one step further. For both of us.

If I am “wrong,” or if you perceive my view as “wrong,” please don’t just write here telling me that you are dismissing it, as if I were some witless schoolchild and you, the pompous administrator. Please tell me WHY I am wrong, as per your view, and please, tell me objectively. Because the only way I can learn anything from you is if you tell me what’s what in a rational, reasonable way.

For example, no, I have no official evidence that Obama was born in Hawaii. That is my own fault. You are right to question me.

But when you retaliate to my claim with another, opposite, but equally un-substantiated claim, then really, we are getting nowhere. In this scenario, all that has happened is taht I have said “I am right because this is how I feel,” and you have said “No, I am right, because I feel this way.” Of course, looking at it like this, we are both quite wrong.

So please, can all the liberals and all the conservatives quit their bickering, quit their mudslinging, quit their egoist ways, and just start cooperating? I am not free from blame, I am just as guilty of asserting my own baseless views as the next man. But I am trying, David. I am trying to stop this, and if everyone just tries, we may finally get some order back in our society. There is nothing that this administration – or any other- can do that can hurt us or destroy us if we, as a people, stand strongly together, with discourse, reason, and open-mindedness as our guides.

1. He was born in Hawaii. His mother is from Kansas. When his father returned to Kenya, Obama stayed in this country.
2. and 28. “throwing out” is a bit overzealous. He intends to enact stronger “regulations.” Of course, it’s entirely possible that he’ll turn out to be a real A-hole and throw out the Second Amendment entirely (good luck getting that one past both Congressional houses and the Supreme Court). But he hasn’t yet. So let’s try and be objective here.
3., 21., and 24. If by “comfortable with terrorists” you mean “attempts to extend foreign relations to Middle Eastern leaders in an amicable manner not seen in the last decade,” then yes. So far, he has had mixed reviews. In fact, Iranian officials outright rejected his attempts at diplomacy, because they felt he was insincere. And terrorists are not a fan of him, either. He has increased troop concentrations in Afghanistan while decreasing them in Iraq (Afghanistan being the presumed location of several major terrorist groups). Of course, he may just be chasing an invisible dragon like Bush was, for whatever reason (personal gain, patriotism, whatever). But still: he’s hardly “buddy buddy” with organized terrorist groups. And while he closed Guantanamo, which I assume you are referencing, he opened up new facilities. This, of course, pissed off a majority of his liberal fanbase , while making many civil conservatives giggle hysterically.
5. and 29. This is, again, paranoid speculation. Any leader can (and probably will) infringe on our basic inalienable rights. I mean, what the hell was with all that NSA wiretapping (which, by the way, Obama is maintaining, again pissing off his liberal fanbase).
6. He went to Harvard. Most Ivy League students attend rallies that run the gamut from Marxism to Veganism (oh, those damn hippies! :p )
7. Many of his most trusted cabinet members are white. Oh, and let’s not forget his mother, and the grandparents he spent time with growing up as a privileged youngster, and whom he has openly gushed over.
10. No, I imagine Lincoln would have a very difficult time using a teleprompter. Probably because he didn’t have telecommunication technology. He was old fashioned like that. :p (however, he did famously write several of his speeches on napkins, which he kept at the podium).
11. Again, how is “being liberal” grounds for impeachment? FDR was a liberal, and he’s largely considered one of the best presidents of our time. Even by conservative analysts.
12. This is inaccurate. He certainly has “socialist leanings,” many of which are, frankly, quite unnerving. But he is not “a socialist.”
14. and 15. Are outright wrong. Obama has always been unflinchingly patriotic, even if many of his ideas are naive. And he is a Christian. In fact, his parents raised him to be “non religious but discerningly spiritual,” and he made the choice to be Baptised on his own. In other words, he fulfilled the Christian dream: despite adversity, he found his way to Christ. Not that that matters at all, because…
18. What? Really? Since when is America a “Christian nation?” If our country is going to keep insisting that it is “tolerant,” it’s going to have to start freakin’ acting like it, and separating Church and State once and for all. Religion has no business being in government; unfortunately, the business of government makes a killing off religions. This narrow-thinking needs to stop. If you continue to equate “Christianity” with “American government,” then you are enabling our officials to take advantage of your religious beliefs and exploit it for financial and political gain. Just stop.
19. and 20. and 21. Dictators don’t happen in this government. We have very, very vocal branches outside of the Executive branch to prevent this. The system has worked with fair success for over two centuries. I don’t see Obama changing it all on his own.
23. Obama doesn’t abort babies. Doctors abort babies, witht eh consent of a willing mother. Obama’s administration is merely allowing people to make their own decisions… so, you know, Obama doesn’t end up telling people what they can and cannot do. Which would be rather dictator-like, don’t you think?
25. The economy was already destroyed. So, given that it was such shit to begin with, he probably figures now is a great time for experiments. Which is exactly what he’s doing. For better or worse. At least he’s doing SOMETHING.

In fact, the only point you’ve made that is completely inarguable is 4.

But he’s working on that.

How about you write a letter to your Congressman and ask for real change. Be specific, be accurate, be objective, be clear, and maybe someone will listen to you and take you seriously.

Until then, this mudslinging tactic is NOT THE WAY to socio-political reform. It is just representative of the unfortunate, non-objective, self-serving rhetoric that has come to pollute so much of our government and our flaggingly American society. If we keep screaming at each other but never extend any helpful hands or plausible solutions, we will certainly fall apart.

Laws that we did not vote for are continuously being passed. This needs to stop!!!! Americans Please Wake Up!!!
