Why would we as Americans give such a distinguished title to someone with so many questionable skeletons in his closet? Children are the most innocent resource we have and anyone that would corrupt them is far from an American Icon. Hateful? Not at all. The author is correct Michael Jackson should not be considered an “American Icon” a Music Icon yes but in no way should he be considered and American Icon. I mean, outside of the supernatural, how can people know with such certainty things they are only speculating on. TV? Media? Yeah, really reliable sources. Jackson had issues, sure. But, MJ's issues stemmed mostly from his inability to live in a reality of hateful people. Only God and perhaps a few people really know what MJ did, but to say that MJ is not accurately a "symbol of America" is well, an opinion. Whether you liked him or not has no bearing on him qualifying as a symbol of American music...come on. That's like saying Elton John is not a British Icon, because he's gay.
